Ben Duncan appointed Community Development Coordinator for EU’s AlertHub network
18 June 2026 – Covilhã, Portugal, the Management Board of the AlertHub EU COST Action meeting at the Universidade Beira Interior today appointed Ben Duncan, Director of Alert Not Alarmed Enterprises as its Community Development Coordinator. In this role, he will help recruit new members to the network and forge new collaborations with individuals and organisations interested in warning communication.

Risk communication is the study of why people get upset about some risk, but not others. From the 1960s onwards, academics started building up a whole pile of evidence showings that the things people worry most about are not necessarily the things most likely to kill them. Human perception of, and reactions to, risk tends to be shaped more by emotions and values than scientific or statistical rationalisation.
